History

A Bit of History
• Pickerington is The Violet Capital of Ohio. Settlers chose the name “Violet Township” in 1908 because of the variety and abundance of soft purple flowers growing wild in the area.
• The area, platted by Abraham Pickering in 1815, still retains its original charm and beauty. Former Village homes have been transformed into unique retail shops, beauty salons, studios, eateries as well as professional offices. Pickerington Village is surrounded by Victory and Sycamore Creek Parks which provide for a wide range of outdoor activities including hiking, biking, skateboarding, soccer, tennis and picnicking. Picktown Palooza was created to celebrate Pickerington’s and Violet Township’s charm and hospitality.
